When I went to baby Jasper’s shower a few weeks ago, Derich casually suggested we do some pictures sometime. People often casually suggest we do pictures, but more often than not it doesn’t happen, or at least doesn’t happen right away. But since baby Jasper is most likely going to arrive on his due date (that’s my prediction anyway—May 27, which is a full moon) we realized we didn’t have much time.
I’ve gotta say, I was a little reticent to take preggers photos. I knew people who did them professionally back in the day. They always struck me as somewhat cheesy. Luckily, there ain’t nothing cheesy about Noëlle, Jasper’s mommy. Not only that, but she makes pregnancy look like it’s the easiest thing in the world. She was doing things like hopping up onto a step stool to tape up a silk, or moving furniture out of my way. I kept saying, STOP IT! Derich will be so mad at me if I break you!
I will not be surprised to hear that Noëlle has a half hour labor and gently brings Jasper into the world while sipping a Kombucha and doing yoga. Yes, she’s that awesome!
Bonnie, what a terrific post! You are spot-on in your description of Noelle. She does make it look so easy…. (But of course, we who know her can fully appreciate how very hard she works!) I might add to your vision of Jasper’s birth only that Noelle, while sipping a Kombucha and doing yoga, would also be asking the nurses how they like their work, what got them into the field, and whether they have children of their own~
I also want to mention, Bonnie, my great delight in seeing the previous post in your blog, “The Return of Purple.” As soon as I saw the photograph, I gasped, and said to my partner, “Look! She’s the same photographer whose show we saw in Carmel!” Derich and Noelle had taken us to the gallery that was showing this series last October. David enjoyed it so much that he took one of the postcards and affixed it to the refrigerator.
I’m sorry that we didn’t get a chance to meet you at Jasper’s first party, but I hope that we will have an opportunity to meet you and to see more of your work very soon.
Take care, Bonnie, and best regards,
Norman (Noelle’s twin and Jasper’s uncle).
